The STOA Panel, the European Parliament's Science and Technology Options Assessment body, had its new Chair and two Vice-Chairs elected for the next two and a half years on Wednesday, 22 October 2014, during the European Parliament's latest plenary session week in Strasbourg.

Vice-President Mairead McGUINNESS, an Irish member of the European People's Party (EPP), who is responsible for STOA within the European Parliament's Bureau, opened and chaired, until the election of the Chair and two Vice-Chairs, the STOA Panel constituent meeting.

Mr Paul RÜBIG, an Austrian member of EPP, was elected Chair of the newly formed STOA Panel, having already served as Chair from 2009 to 2012 and first Vice-Chair from 2012 to 2014, during the European Parliament's 7th Legislature. In addition, Ms Eva KAILI, a newly elected Greek MEP and member of the Socialists and Democrats Group (S&D), was elected as first Vice-Chair of the STOA Panel alongside Mr RÜBIG. Mr Evžen TOŠENOVSKÝ, Czech member of the European Conservatives and Reformists Group (ECR), who was already a member of the STOA Panel in the second half of the 7th legislature, was elected as second STOA Vice-Chair.
